Introduction[editar | editar código]

Students will create a puppet show in which they will use knowledge gained during the first five learning session, particularly communicative skills.

Didactic resources[editar | editar código]

Materials depending on the type of puppet:

  • fabric
  • cardboard or paper bag
  • English-Spanish/Spanish-English dictionary

Session 6, Period 1[editar | editar código]

Initial Phase[editar | editar código]

todo el grupo

Tell the students they will make puppets for a show; but first they will have to learn how to make one by reading the instructions given in Activity 6.1. (see “How to Make Puppets” in WikiHow).

Checkpoint

Verify that students understand the instructions given to do the task.

Intermediate Phase[editar | editar código]

trabajo en equipo

In groups students read the instructions for making a puppet and start making at least 3 puppets (depending on the number of members in the group). These puppets will be used in the show.

Checkpoint

Students organize to complete the task as a group.

Wrap up[editar | editar código]

Students will have read the instructions and made the number of puppets they think will be needed for their show.

Students report to the teacher.

Session 6, Period 2[editar | editar código]

Initial Phase[editar | editar código]

todo el grupo

Students have to prepare a show with their puppets. The show should include: a presentation of the characters/puppets, a brief description of a holiday, the day, month and some things that happen on that day.

Themes for presentation: Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving, Easter, Independence of Guatemala, a local holiday in their town or community, November 1st, etc.

Checkpoint

Student decide and plan on a presentation based on a selected holiday.

Intermediate Phase[editar | editar código]

trabajo en equipo

Students will create the presentation according to the theme they choose; they will hand in a graphic organizer with the information they will be sharing with whole group.

Checkpoint

Verify that students are ready with their corresponding presentation and graphic organizer.

Wrap up[editar | editar código]

Students will have ready the material for the next period, when they will present to the class their characters and holiday.

Session 6, Period 3[editar | editar código]

todo el grupo

For this period each group will present their Puppet Show. While the groups are presenting, the teacher should write down comments about the holiday and at the end give feedback to the students and invite them to keep up the good work.

Formative assessment
Refer students to Can Do Statements. Emphasize the importance of reflecting on their learning. Invite them to watch this video:

Sistema social para expresar ideas y manifestarlas al prójimo. Este sistema existe dentro de un entorno social (sistema social) y un sistema lingüístico (ejemplos son el español, francés, k’iche’, kaqchikel, etc.) Tienen que existir ambos sistemas para que pueda existir la comunicación.
